The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Pax Romana KNUST local has accreditation from the National Pan African and International Office to run activities as a Catholic Christian religious body in the 2nd Zone of Ghana’s Federation. As a local body of the International Movement, Pax Romana KNUST has the following aims and objectives:

  1. To promote student apostolate within the life and mission of the church and in the world.
  2. To deepen our experience of the Christian faith lived through commitment and to communicate this faith to the student milieu.
  3. To promote justice which is crucial for the transformation of our society
  4. To foster social awareness among the youth and promote effort for nation building.
  5. To develop and educative process that will help students translate their Christian faith into more practical effort aimed at building a more just society.

Our methodologies and pedagogies are reflection-action-reflection, participation, critical analysis, conscientisation, reading and sharing of ideas and experiences as well as a preferential option for the poor. Our motto is Liberation for peace with the vision That Christ may be in all. IMCS Pax Romana KNUST local has a membership of about 2000 students with a little over 50% of this number being active. Nine core executives with the support of subgroups and committee heads constitute the Executive Council and effectively manage and coordinate the affairs of the Movement. The chaplaincy priests are the spiritual directors of the Movement and with several Alumni and Pax parents as benefactors, Pax Romana KNUST can boast of an ever willing team of supporters an stakeholders.

Students of the Catholic Chaplaincy meet every Tuesday for special students Mass where other programmes are orgainsed during the Mass. Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm are specially devoted to teachings of the doctrines of the Catholic Church for Pax Romana members. The program, Hour of faith is held at this time on Focus F.M., 94.3. Dawn Rosary prayers follow on Thursdays from 5.20am to 6.00am and then Cell meetings on Saturdays from 5.20am to 6.30am to complete the Movement’s meeting times during the week aside the Chaplaincy’s regular schedule for daily masses.

The general functioning and organization of Pax Roman KNUST local is based on subgroups within the Movement who run their activities with interdependence on one another.  Below is the list of subgroups within the Movement:

  2. Student Marshallans Association
  3. Lectors Ministry
  4. Legion of Mary
  5. Ushering Ministry
  6. Sacred Heart of Confraternity
  7. Pax Choir
  8. International Students Association
  9. Organizing and Technical Ministry
  10. Knights and Ladies of the Blessed Sacrament (Mass Servers)
  11. Catholic Charismatic Renewal

Some of the members, however, are not in any of the above mentioned, they form the non-aligned.

IMCS Pax Romana KNUST local can boast of a lot of achievements ever since it was established. Among these are:

  1. Conscientising Catholic students and promoting apostolate within the life and mission of the church.
  2. Fostering social awareness among the youth to promote nation building
  3. Good leadership among the students which aid in their transformation into future leaders
  4. SHS Outreach – where students visit, motivate and mentor younger students at eh secondary level to help them progress the tertiary level and help attain their set goals in life
  5. Rural Development and Education Project (RUDEP) – a duration during which students reach out to inhabitants of selected rural areas to impact knowledge and skills to them as well as educating them `on the awareness of tropical food and water-borne diseases and aiding in observing the preventive measures of these diseases. This is organized every other year during the long vacations for students.

In conclusion, Pax Romana KNUST local envisage a strong movement which would provide profound Catholic formation and education through the numerous inspiring and innovative activities of the Movement. The Movement hopes also for a membership characterized by active participation and total dedication to every single activity of the Movement.
